Lifestyle and food blogger Didier Young loves nothing more than sharing a meal with friends and family—but delicious doesn’t have to be difficult. Here’s how he pulls together a simple yet elegant meal on the fly.
11:53 a.m. Didier knows that well-stocked charcuterie boards are an instant crowd-pleaser. He stops by The Market by Longo’s for brie and goat cheese, stuffed olives and cherry tomatoes, and cured sausages and pate. He grabs extra virgin olive oil before heading to his next stop.
12:24 p.m. Forno Cultura is Didier’s go-to for all things doughy and delicious. He grabs a fresh baguette to accompany the meal—then grabs another, just in case. (Homemade croutons are always a good backup plan.)
2:43 p.m. Didier knows that a great meal requires great drinks. He grabs a smattering of fine Burgundies (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, of course) from the LCBO, before heading to DAVIDsTea for the perfect post-meal dessert tea: Organic Cream of Earl Grey.
1:15 p.m. When you go simple with snacks, you have to wow with dessert. Didier stops by Decadent Desserts for their simple, understated white chocolate cheesecake—a personal favourite and a showstopper all in one.
1:30 p.m. Back to work! The challenge now: Avoid snacking (and remember to grab the goods from the office fridge!).
Alistair D'Cruz & Karuna Israni enjoy the finer things in life. Born and raised in Dubai, the pair founded their joint lifestyle and fashion blog, What We Wore, upon moving to Toronto. With more than 14,000 followers, their social calendars are—unsurprisingly—always full. Just in time for the holidays, here’s how they pull together those last minute host gifts:
1:53 a.m. No one knows alpine cheer quite like the Swiss chocolatier Lindt, so Karuna and Alistair start with this holiday classic, grabbing pre-wrapped gift boxes for a simple, stress-free solution.
12:27 p.m. There’s no gift quite as convenient and portable as a gift card. Alistair indulges his coworker’s inner fashionista with an Aldo credit, and salutes his early-morning dog walker with a card for Starbucks.
1:15 p.m. The best part about receiving a gift? Unwrapping it. Karuna and Alistair make one last stop to Carlton Cards to grab gift wrap, ribbon, and greeting cards for their long-distance pals back in Dubai.
1:30 p.m. Back to work for a few hours, until the real work begins: Putting all that gift wrap to use!
For marketing executive turned fashion and lifestyle blogger, My Little Secret's Natalie Ho, balancing her dual life is almost a full-time job in itself. Here’s how she makes the most of an hour-long break in the middle of her workday.
11:53 p.m. Look good, feel better. With a last-minute event to rush to after work, Natalie stops by Judith & Charles for a fresh new wrap blouse.
12:07 p.m. The Caryl Baker Visage facial spa is where Natalie goes to refresh her foundation, redo her killer cat-eye, and top off her look with her signature shade of lipstick: Crimson Red.
12:27 p.m. Carrying around a salon in her purse is impossible—but BLO Blow Dry Bar makes it easy for Natalie to get those last minute touch-ups, including one of BLO’s seven signature blowouts in thirty minutes or less.
1:15 p.m. Natalie heads back to her desk to finish up the day—but not before sampling a few new scents at Rexall. Today’s pick? Yves Saint Laurent.
PR executive and strategist Rob Loschiavo is constantly on the go. And, as a fashion and lifestyle blogger with an affinity for the finer things in life, his lunchtime errands always combine comfort, class and convenience:
11:53 a.m. Rob jumpstarts his lunch hour with a quick workout at Adelaide Club. Depending on the day, he might take advantage of their squash courts, on-site nutritionists and physiotherapists, or Member’s Lounge, in addition to the full gym.
12:44 p.m. With over 25 years’ of experience, Tony’s Barber Shop is where Rob heads for his classic straight razor shave and haircut—not to mention lunchtime banter.
1:23 p.m. Last but not least, Rob checks off his outstanding “to do” list items: pick up his custom-fit Yohji Yamamoto frames at Karir Eyewear, stop by Penny Loafers Shoe Shine Co for a brilliant polish and clean, and have his watch battery replaced at Batteries.
1:35 p.m. Rob winds up his watch as he winds down his lunch hour—back to work!
